George Li and Daniil Trifonov perform Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto Nos 1 and 3 with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Valery Gergiev at the Gergiev Festival across two concerts on 10 September 2016. The concerts see Prokofiev’s five Piano Concertos performed in one day by a number of soloists.
Both Trifonov and Li are regular soloists with Gergiev; in February 2016, both joined him with the Mariinsky Orchestra in their ‘Prokofiev Marathon’ in New York. Li performed Piano Concerto No.1, the New York Times writing: “a bracing, fearless account…Mr. Li’s playing combined youthful abandon with utter command.” Trifonov’s performance of Concerto No.3 in New York was praised for its “delicacy and sparkling clarity”.
